The City of Chesapeake is currently exploring design options to enhance the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail for users.  Now open to bicyclers, walkers, runners, equestrians and boaters, the Dismal Swamp Canal Trail threads through some of the most uniquely historical and ecologically-significant habitats in the U.S.

The design team invites you to share your ideas for improving the existing trail and related amenities through attending public meeting and design workshops, completing surveys and by visiting this website.


Current News

The first public workshop was held Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Cedar Road Elementary School.  The workshop began with a presentation about the trail project’s history and design plans and was followed by an opportunity for public questions and comment.  A copy of the presentation, in PDF format is available by clicking here. (2.5 MB PDF)
